Many mistakes can be made while on a date that may ruin a person's chances of truly connecting with another person. Though some may get a chance at another date, the first date not going well may make such a poor impression that neither person has any interest in pursuing further contact.
One of the first problems people face when trying to find a date is to find someone that genuinely interests them; most people don't have time these days to waste it on a relationship that will inevitably fail. The problem is: how can you tell whether or not you've met your perfect match?
Some singles try to avoid bad dates by narrowing their scope down to those who have the best chance of being compatible match. This can be done by making certain that you people in a more specific environment such as when participating in hobbies, classes or any interests that may bring you together with others. Another way of being more selective in the dating world is to meet people online. By following the dating advice of and allowing the experts to find those who seem most likely to suit your personality you may find a place to meet new people in an environment designed to help in finding true love.
All of that said, whether you're out for the first time or dating again after years of being off the shelf everyone knows it's hard to find that right romantic relationship, the one that could last a lifetime. While trying to set everything up on your end to make a date the best it can be is a great start, there are just so many unpredictable aspects that it is equally as important to be able to adapt. If you're completely thrown off of your game by a little mishap, this could completely ruin your chances.
Scenario One: Going with the flow:
There are more than a few people in the world that enjoy the control they have over their lives. People who enjoy order and planning may have great difficulty with the unpredictable side of dating and their reactions may come across as very poor indeed. If you are one of these types of people, remember that a date is a relationship in miniature and you're going to have to let go a little and compromise with either your date or just life in general in order to meet, hopefully happily, somewhere in the middle.
Example:
Mary and Carl are going on a date and have reservations at a nice restaurant. When they arrive they are told that their reservations cannot be found and they must either wait for what might be a very long time, or go elsewhere to dine.
Mary offers some suggestions, but Carl is too caught up in being angry and embarrassed. Very quickly Mary is bored and frustrated with Carl's behavior and while after a time they do continue their date elsewhere, Carl's inability to adapt has left her with a poor first impression.
The reason such an example is important isn't just because of learning to control your temper or consider the position you put others in when you cannot move past a bad situation. It is also noteworthy for two people considering romance because a person who cannot adapt may run into much larger and more significant problems later in life and not have the ability to handle them.
Scenario Two: Consideration of others:
Many singles try very hard to show how independent they are and thus, not at all needy, but it is important to note that this behavior in the extreme can also come across as careless, even rude. It is important to balance that show of self pride and worth with a considerate nature. The message should be simple: You're interested, but you have a full and happy life even if you do seek romance.
Example:
John and Karen are supposed to meet at a concert at 8:00p.m. where Karen will give John his ticket and they will be able to head into together. In an attempt to show that he is neither needy nor desperate John tries to show he is carefree and shows up fifteen minutes late. The message he sends to Karen is that he is undependable and not terribly interested in her. After the concert is over she declines his invitation to go get drinks and goes home.
This is only one example of how the intention of looking one way can hurt your chances at winning someone over. While you never want to come across as needy, a little consideration is a good thing when hoping to make a romantic connection and bad manners will often put an abrupt end to any further dates.
There are many examples you can look to that injure a person's chance of winning over others and by trying to understand how certain actions come across you may prevent yourself from losing out on a potentially special relationship.
Remember that those first few dates, maybe even only the first, might be your only opportunity to show that other person what a catch you are. Too many people struggle with the basic dynamics of getting together for the first time and allowing minor mishaps to alter what might be the true natural course of their meeting.
Take control of your relationship destiny by eliminating some of the game play and strategies that simply won't help you to get a lasting relationship and open yourself up to new dating possibilities.
